YONKERS (WESTCHESTER CUNTY) NY: New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh is relieved the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has declared Monkeypox a national health emergency.

QUOTE: "A week ago, I urged the New York State Health Department to take stronger action and the State stepped up its response," said Assemblyman Nader Sayegh. "Now with the Federal Government declaring a national health emergency our local state and federal health officials can together coordinate a stronger response and get more Monkeypox (JYENNOS) vaccine into areas that need it."

The national declaration of a health emergency makes emergency funding available, allows health departments to collect data, accelerates vaccine distribution and makes it easier for Doctors to prescribe treatment.

Federal health officials say they believe they can combat the spread of Monkeypox before it becomes endemic.

To speed vaccinations, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed an Executive Order that allows EMT’s, pharmacists and other health care professionals to administer the 110,000 new doses of monkeypox vaccine that the federal government will deliver to the State over the next several weeks.

The outbreak in the United States has grown into the largest in the world with over 6,600 reported cases.
