YONKERS: The City Council Voted To Extend Term Limits And Allow Elected Officials To Serve Four Terms

YONKERS (WESTCHESTER COUNTY) NY: Mayor #MikeSpano Gets A Shot At A Fourth Term As The #YonkersCityCouncil Extends Terms In A Chaotic MeetingÂ
Those in favor of term limits chanted "four more years" and said they liked the direction the mayor and council have taken the city.
Opponents were also very outspoken and claimed the council was overstepping its authority, even the council vote to extend term limits is entirely legal.
Verbal altercations between #Yonkers community members led to scuffles, causing the #YonkersPD to remove several people from the legislative chambers.
A #YonkersPoliceDepartment officer alleges that a community organizer Hector Santiago, who had one arm in a sling, took a swing at him with his good armÂ
But The Matthew Wallace Foundation Head #JeniWallaceLong screamed at #YPD officers claiming that no one swung at the officer.
Mr. Santiago was placed in a #YonkersPoliceDepartment holding cell and was able to go before a #Yonkers City Court Judge late in the afternoon of the next day.
Hispanic community organizer Diana Sanchez was was a major disruptor of the council meeting that involved many disputes between council members and constituents.
The #YonkersPD got the people in the row behind Ms. Sanchez obeyed a lawful police order to leave the council chamber, but they said they could not get Mr. Santiago to stop arguing with Ms. Sanchez.
So the #YPD ordered Mr. Santiago to vacate the #Yonkers council chamber and they claim he scuffled with a police officer in the hallway - and was arrested on multiple charges.
Mr. Santiago had to be taken to the hospital after he was face planted, restrained and arrested; after he allegedly went after a #YPD officer with his one good arm.
Afterwards, Mr. Santiago's  supporters wanted to know why the #YonkersPolice officers just did not simply go over and arrest Ms. Sanchez for disturbing the peace and disrupting a city council meeting.
They also want to know why there has not been an arrest warrant put out for Ms. Sanchez, since her load governmental disruptions were caught on multiple cameras.
Order was restored and the council voted 4-3 in favor of amending the city charter to extend term limits for City Council members and the mayor.
The council president, #LakishaCollinsBellamy, who faced discrimination in #Yonkers, suggested that the intent of the original term limits law way to "term out" the reformers who followed the city's youngest mayor and were continuing the fight for school and housing desegregation.
#LakishaCollinsBellamy, Tasha Diaz, Mike Breen and John Rubbo voted in favor of the extension.
Councilmember Anthony Merante, Shanae Verice Williams And Corazon Pineda Isaac voted against it.
Councilmember Anthony Merante is scheduled to introduce legislation for a referendum vote on next year's ballot that would roll back term limits from four to three.

Now that running for a fourth term is an option for Yonkers elected officials, it certainly gives me something to think about for myself. I love being mayor, but ultimately it will be up to the voters on Election Day as to who will lead our city for the next four years".....
