WESTCHESTER COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY: One Of Three Jewelry Thieves Apprehended In Yonkers

ANOTHER DAYTIME ROBBERY: The smash and grab thieves are believed to be connected to a similar incident in north of Yonkers.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY: One vehicle the crime scene was stopped in a nearby community with multiple arrests.

YONKERS: A Westchester County Police unit observed two suspect vehicles in the area of Central Park Avenue and Mile Square Road and attempted to stop them.

Three suspects bailed out of the vehicle on Staunton Street.

One person of interest was placed in custody to the Yonkers Police Department.

Two other suspects are at large.

The second vehicle that fled was stopped in another community with additional arrests.

This is now a multi - agency investigation working to identify the two remaining suspects that are at large.

UPDATE: The Yonkers Police Department unsuccessfully conducted a suspect search in the area of Seminary Avenue and Staunton Street and surrounding areas for the two men that ran from the vehicle that was stopped near Mile Square road.

The Yonkers PD put out a description of two black or dark skinned males, originally wearing dark clothing but the YPD added that they may have discarded their outer clothing.

And there were three males in the second car that was stopped in a nearby community.

SCHOOL SAFETY: School Superintendent Says Yonkers Schools Are Now More Secure

Yonkers School Superintendent Edwin Quezada says that his main the focus is on education, but school security has been increased in light of the increase of mass shootings like the one at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.

Superintendent Quezada retrofitted many buildings with new technology.

Twelve additional safety officers have been added to the Yonkers Public Schools.

The Yonkers Police Department is involved in their training.

For the 25,000 students in Yonkers, most of the COVID-related restrictions have been dropped for the first time since 2019.

Masks are optional, and anyone exposed to the virus will no longer have to quarantine.

But those who test positive for the virus still have to isolate for at least five days.

DOWNTOWN YONKERS: Man Shot In Downtown Yonkers Daylight Park - Another Yonkers Gunman at Large

DAYTIME SHOOTING: A gunman fired several shots at a victim, striking him two times in the upper body in the Mill River Daylighting Park.

YONKERS POLICE DEPARTMENT: After being shot, the victim ran one block north along Warburton Avenue and the Yonkers police found in front of 62 Warburton avenue.

The latest victim was put in an Empress meat wagon and rushed to a trauma center.

The shooting was near luxury apartments, the DMV office and the historical Philpse Manor, that is a site for tourists.

Sadly, Mill River park has become a haven for prostitution, drug dealing, and a homeless hangout, as the Yonkers Police Department just drives by the $8.3 million dollar park.

The gunman is still at large, along with the Ritter Lane gunman and Pitkin Park Gunman.

YPD Detectives are trying to identify and apprehend the latest gunman.

These shootings show that the Yonkers PD much work and improvement to be done.

HAMMER TIME: At the Yonkers Shop Rite, a female suspect approached a woman from behind and struck her in the head with a ball-peen hammer.

DOWNTOWN YONKERS: The suspect was taken into custody and the victim was transported to a local area hospital with a head laceration.

The women knew one another, and the incident appears to be domestic in nature, according to the Yonkers police Department.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY DA: A Yonkers high school teacher in sexual assault of student after student allegations of criminal behavior by a Yonkers Public Schools high school teacher.

YONKERS: Saunders Trades and Technical High School teacher James Korwatch began an inappropriate relationship with the then 17-year-old student in 2021 and that relationship escalated to physical and sexual violence as well as physical and verbal intimidation and coercion, according to court papers filed by Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah's Office

James Korwatch is a 49-year-old carpentry teacher at the school and a resident of the Village of Ossining, New York.

He was charged with Criminal Sexual Act 1, a Class B Violent Felony in the New York State Penal Law and Stalking 1, a Class D Violent Felony in the New York State Penal Law.

The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office....

YONKERS SHOOTING UPDATES: The Ritter's Lane Gunman, That Left A Female Shot, Still Has Not Been Arrested Yet, But The Yonkers PD Reports That 23 year Old Jaquan Henderson, Was Arrested By Georgia Authorities For Another Nearby Shooting On School Street.

FLASHBACK: On July 16th there were two shootings within just 90 minutes of each other in #Yonkers.

BLOODY SATURDAY: This first shooting happened around 9:15 p.m. in the area of Pitkin Park. The second happened around 10:48 p.m. near 42 School Street.

GANG VIOLENCE: In the second shooting, three victims, two males and one female, were critically injured.

The Yonkers Police Department believes the shootings were related to group violence, and that Jaquan Henderson was retaliating after the first shooting that night.

All three victims suffered critical internal injuries and are still recovering.

No arrests have been made in the other shooting or the Ritter Lane Shooting.
