Yonkers Assemblyman Nader Sayegh Statement On Supporting Our First Responders During Storm Power Outages
My legislation to require storm power outage service restoration for fire, police and ambulance headquarters as amended passed with sweeping bipartisan support in the Assembly 146-1.
Working with my Democratic & Republican colleagues, we produced a bipartisan solution that will have the New York State Department of Homeland Security supply generators to first responders if they are without power over 24 hours.
New York Responds which I voted to fund earlier this year, established 10 stock piles of emergency equipment across New York.
Combined with a new communication systems going into service that links County Emergency Command Centers directly with New York State Homeland Security, we are going to better prepared for the next big storm and power outage that goes with it.
If a local police, fire or ambulance headquarters needs help getting electric service re-established, this program will be ready.
As extreme weather events become increasingly common, it is of critical importance that we ensure our first responders have the resources they need to respond to our residents.
